$600+ Tax Rebate May Be Headed to Iowa, Illinois, and Wisconsin Residents
Looks like Missouri is looking out for the Tri-State working man with its senator’s latest bill, he calls the "American Worker Rebate Act of 2025." Yep, Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO) is trying to take the sting out of tariffs by spinning them into cold, hard cash. That is rebates, for American families. And yes, that includes all of us in the Tri-States and across the U.S.
Here’s the gist: the federal government collects billions in tariff revenue every year (or plans to). Those are taxes on imported goods from countries like China. Instead of letting that money sit around, Hawley’s bill says, “Let’s give it back to the people.” Specifically, $600 per adult (double for joint filers) and $600 per kid, if there’s enough tariff revenue to go around. It's essentially another stimulus check.

Now, before you go refreshing your bank app, know this: it’s not automatic. The rebate would be based on total tariff collections post-January 20th, 2025, and would be split across all “eligible individuals” (i.e. legal residents with Social Security numbers). So, your check might be bigger or smaller than $600, depending on how much Uncle Sam brings in from tariffs.
Midwestern manufacturing and agriculture-heavy states like Iowa, Illinois, and Wisconsin will feel the burn, especially when the tariffs trigger retaliation from trade partners. Trade deals are being made, but this bill aims to soften the blow for working families by recycling the proceeds during the deal-making process. It won’t fix trade policy, but it might cover a bill or two.
Bottom line? Missouri’s senator wants to redistribute tariff money straight into your pocket. Hey, I'm not gonna turn it down if it happens! Now, whether it passes or not, it’s got one thing going for it: it's one of the rare bills that will take money from Washington and send it back to you (even if it was yours to begin with). Again, I’ll take the windfall where I can get ’em.
