The Baseball Extravaganza in Dubuque is a Home Run for Inclusivity
Mark your calendars, Dubuque! On Tuesday, July 23, 2024, the Miracle League of Dubuque is rolling out the red carpet—or should we say, the green diamond—for an all-inclusive baseball extravaganza. Teams from Dubuque, Sioux City, and South Hills of Pittsburgh will converge for a day of fun, sportsmanship, and some unforgettable baseball moments. And if that wasn’t exciting enough, the legendary Sean “The Mayor” Casey will be in town to join in the festivities!
The day kicks off bright and early at 9:30 a.m. with an opening ceremony at the Miracle League Complex. Located at 2790 Miracle League Dr., this place is going to be buzzing with excitement. Sean Casey, who’s not just a three-time MLB All-Star but also a Cincinnati Reds Hall of Famer, will be there to set the tone. Joining him will be Dubuque’s very own City Council Member, David Resnick.
From 10:00 AM onward, the diamonds will be alive with the sounds of bats cracking and cheers erupting. The Miracle Division game starts the action, followed by Advanced Skills Division games at 11:00 AM, 12:00 PM, and 1:00 PM. So, grab your hats and sunscreen, because it’s going to be a fantastic day at the ballpark!
And the fun doesn’t stop there. The evening festivities will take place at none other than the iconic Field of Dreams Movie Site in Dyersville. If you’ve ever dreamed of stepping into a scene from the classic movie, this is your chance. The evening kicks off at 5:30 PM with another opening ceremony, and then the games resume with a Miracle Division game at 6:00 PM and Advanced Skills Division games at 7:00 PM and 8:00 PM.
The best part? All events are free and open to the public! The Miracle League Complex offers limited bleacher seating, so feel free to bring your own chairs. And yes, there will be plenty of food and beverages available for purchase to keep everyone fueled and happy.
Sean Casey, who also founded the Miracle League of the South Hills, couldn’t be more excited.
“At the Miracle League, we want to give every player the same opportunities to have an incredible baseball experience. Our families, players, and coaches look forward to creating lifelong memories at one of the most iconic baseball venues in the country. I can't wait to see our athletes try to hit it in the corn!”

Merle Santjer, board president of the Miracle League of Dubuque, shares the enthusiasm. “We are very excited to host the tournament and welcome teams from Sioux City and South Hills,” Santjer said. “It will be an unforgettable experience for the athletes and their families. We hope everyone comes out to watch and cheer on the teams!”
Admission to the Field of Dreams is a $20 suggested donation, though it’s not mandatory. Just like at the Miracle League Complex, seating is limited, so bringing chairs is a great idea. The Stretch, the on-site concession stand, will be serving up delicious snacks and drinks to keep everyone’s spirits high.
