Veterans Day, originally known as Armistice Day, is a federal holiday observed annually on November 11th in the US. It's a day set aside specifically for honoring the military veterans of the United States Armed Forces, who were discharged under conditions other than dishonorable.

 The Tri-States, like many other areas, are offering wonderful tributes and events that vets and their families can attend, most free of charge. Check the list below to see area events.

Thursday, November 10

  • Southwestern Highschool will be hosting their annual Veteran’s Day Breakfast and Program on Thursday, November 10th. Breakfaststarts at 8:30am, with a program to follow at 10.  Breakfast is free to veterans. Please call the high school office at (608) 854-2261 if you would like to participate.

Veteran's Day Activities/Events, Friday, November 11th

  • Dubuque American Legion Post #6 will hold a Veteran’s Day Ceremony at 10:30am at the Dubuque Ice Arena on Chaplain Schmitt Island. All Veterans and citizens are invited to attend. The featured keynote Speaker is Christina Schauer who served in the U.S. Army Reserve 389th Engineer Battalion stationed in Dubuque. Following the ceremony, a chili luncheon will be held at the Legion’s clubhouse at 1306 Delhi St at 11:30am.
  • Camp Courageous in Monticello will host a Veterans Day Tribute at the Durgin Pavilion from 1 to 3pm. All Veterans and their families are invited to attend this free event. The afternoon will include the Mainliner Memorial Park, zipline rides, food, beverages, bowling, bingo, and more. Find more details here.
  • Amvets Post #28 in Clinton, IA will host a Veteran's Day Flag Retirement Ceremony from 4:30 to 8pm. After the ceremony, dinner will be available, FREE for all veterans & active-duty military members. All others may enjoy the meal for a donation please. Dinner is Beef & Noodles, Roll, and Dessert.
  • Veterans, military members and their families are invited to enjoy a free fresh breakfast at their local Hy-Vee between 6 and 10am in honor of Veterans Day.   • Chicago’s Veterans Day Commemoration Ceremony will begin at 11am at Soldier Field.
  • The Cuba City School District will host a Veterans Day program at 8:30am in the High School Gymnasium. Local Veterans and community members are encouraged to attend. There will be a breakfast for our Veterans following the program.
  • Madison, Wisconsin hosts the free Veterans Day Concert and Ceremony at the State Capitol. Contact the Madison Veterans Council for information: 608 835-9861
