Serious Motorcycle Crash in Rural Galena

This past weekend, the Jo Daviess County Sheriff’s Office responded to a serious motorcycle accident just east of rural Galena. Around 2:55 PM on Saturday, May 17th, William J. Lambie, 36, was riding his motorcycle with a passenger, Leatha M. Lambie, 43. While traveling on West Council Hill Road, William lost control of his bike when he went off the south side of the road onto the loose gravel shoulder. As he attempted to correct, the motorcycle tipped over and slid across the road, ejecting both riders.

William suffered life-threatening injuries and was rushed from Midwest Medical Center in Galena by helicopter to the University of Iowa hospital in Iowa City. Leatha was also hurt, but her injuries were not life-threatening. Emergency crews from several local agencies assisted with the accident, including the Galena Police and Fire Department, the Galena and Hazel Green EMS, and  AirCare 3. The sheriff’s office is still investigating the crash.

Early Morning DUI Crash in Elizabeth

Less than 24 hours later, on May 18th, deputies were called to a two-vehicle accident on US Route 20 West in Elizabeth. Milena J. Husmann, 45, from Monticello, Iowa, was driving eastbound with her passenger, Ryan Husmann, when her vehicle crossed over the center line and side-swiped a car driven by 80-year-old William Villont of Belvidere, Illinois.

Milena was transported to Midwest Medical Center in Galena with non-life-threatening injuries. She was cited for improper lane usage and driving under the influence of alcohol. The sheriff’s office continues to investigate this collision. All parties involved are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
