This is Wisconsin?! Cliffs and Crystal Clear Water Await
Hiking season is officially here, and I for sure broke in my boots for the summer this past weekend. What started off as a 2-hour-ish road trip to Wisconsin turned into a beautiful day of "billy-goating" bluffs and a chilly dip in serene, but busy, waters. The name of the place definitely does not match the beauty of the scenery at Devil's Lake State Park in Baraboo.

Tucked into the rolling bluffs of south-central Wisconsin, Devil’s Lake State Park is the state’s most visited park, and for good reason. Known for its dramatic 500-foot quartzite cliffs and crystal-clear water, this natural gem offers something for every type of adventurer.
A panoramic view from one of my first overlooks of the day. This park is beautiful.
Hikers can ascend the East or West Bluff Trail for sweeping views of the lake below, while rock climbers from across the Midwest come to scale the park’s rugged stone formations. The lake itself is the perfect spot for swimming, kayaking, fishing, or simply soaking in the surrounding beauty while sunning on the sandy beach.

Devil’s Lake’s popularity isn’t just about the scenery, although that's what I was there for. It’s also a gateway to Wisconsin’s diverse ecosystems. The park spans over 9,000 acres of forest, prairie, and wetland, providing a rich habitat for wildlife and an amazing experience for nature lovers. I need to come back in the autumn, when the park is sure to blaze with color (but green was great for this trip).
My first photo of the day from the sandy beach of the South shore which would be full of visitors enjoying the chilly water later.
My family and I climbed Devil’s Doorway, checked out Balanced Rock, and hiked both bluffs on the day, capturing the amazing views of golden light across Devil’s Lake.

This hike is sure to be one of my most unforgettable moments of the year. Check out more of the adventure below. It’s no surprise this park tops the list as the most visited in Wisconsin and is a must-visit for all of its natural wonders.
