Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of the woman killed in a fall at Bellevue State Park over the weekend.

Authorities have identified the victim as Iris Merfeld, 36, of Zwingle. Iris was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.

According to a press release, Merfeld was visiting an overlook known as Pulpit Rock in the park during the early morning hours of Saturday when she fell an estimated 150 feet from the bluffs to rocks below.

Authorities do not believe there was any foul play but they believe alcohol may have been a factor.

Bellevue State Park remains open for visitors.
