You could feel both a palpable sense of excitement and community permeate Dubuque's Millwork District on Saturday, September 10th. It was the return of Bloktoberfest, a sizable block party that took place on Washington Street.

The ethos of Bloktoberfest is one anyone can get behind. It's about community, togetherness, and putting down the smartphones and video games in favor of getting out and being active. The organizers, vendors, and volunteers of the event made those things possible by offering fun for the entire family over the course of Saturday afternoon.

At the heart of Bloktoberfest was talented skateboarders and BMX riders performing gravity-defying tricks and stunts on the Olliewood Action Sports ramp that took up a good portion of Washington Street. Earlier this week, I chatted with Olliewood's Jason Henkel all about Bloktoberfest and what Olliewood does for the community. You can find that interview here!

The afternoon was also underscored by a unique performance from a fire dancer from Float and Fly Wellness Studio, who was a solo act you couldn't help but watch.

While kids enjoyed the kids zone, adults got their fix of fun at the Townsquare Media Stage where Beer Yoga, Tug-of-War, Stein Racesa dance exhibition by Adams Dance Connection, the Bloktoberfest Dunk Tank, and more took place.

I was broadcasting live for Y105 and 103.3 WJOD, helping kick things off from 11am to 2pm. It was a warm welcome from the event organizers to the attendees alike, who made this is a stellar and memorable event!
