City of Dubuque to Offer Free Storm Damage Collection
Following the significant derecho that impacted Dubuque on Monday, July 15, the City of Dubuque is offering residents a free collection service for storm-damaged tree limbs and branches. This special no-charge collection will commence on Wednesday, July 17, and continue through Tuesday, July 23, to aid residents in the cleanup efforts.
Residents are instructed to place their storm-damaged limbs and branches at the curb or alley line where they typically set out their solid waste containers. This initiative is aimed at making the disposal process as seamless and efficient as possible for the community.
To ensure proper collection, residents must adhere to the following guidelines:
- Branches should measure less than three inches in diameter and no more than five feet in length.
- Branches should be tied together with rope or twine to form manageable bundles.
- Each bundle should not exceed 18 inches in diameter and weigh less than 40 pounds.
City yard waste crews will conduct the collections on the residents’ regular trash and recycling collection days, allowing for a predictable and convenient service. Residents are not required to contact City staff to schedule limb or branch removal, further simplifying the process.
This initiative is part of the City’s commitment to assisting residents in recovering from the recent severe weather event, which brought limbs down on power lines and some extensive clean up across the Tri-State's. By providing this free service, the city aims to support the community in clearing debris and restoring normalcy to the power grid, traffic flow, and walkway conditions.
The City encourages all residents to take advantage of this opportunity and ensure their storm-damaged limbs and branches are appropriately prepared and placed for collection. This effort not only helps individual households but also contributes to the overall cleanup and recovery of the Dubuque community. For more information, residents can visit the City of Dubuque’s official website or contact the City’s public works department.
