
Dubuque Man Arrested at City Council Meeting — Loaded Gun, Controlled Substance
A Dubuque man was arrested Monday evening after entering a Federal Building during a City Council meeting while carrying a loaded firearm. The suspect, identified as 41-year-old Austin Goodman of Dubuque, was taken into custody after resisting arrest and assaulting an officer.

According to a Dubuque Police news release, Goodman entered the Dubuque Post Office and Court House building at 350 West 6th Street at around 6:30 PM on Monday, March 3rd, 2025, and proceeded to the second floor where the council meeting was in session. Officers, who routinely provide security at these meetings, were already familiar with Goodman due to prior investigations and interactions. At the time, police had probable cause to arrest him for violating a No Contact Order.
Authorities had also been monitoring Goodman’s social media activity, where he had announced his plans to attend the meeting to protest his interactions with law enforcement and local government. He was live-streaming his entry into the building when officers intercepted him near the council chambers.

During the arrest, Goodman resisted and assaulted an officer. A search revealed he was in possession of a loaded semiautomatic handgun. He was also found to be carrying a controlled substance. Goodman now faces multiple charges, including:
- Interference with Official Acts While Armed with a Firearm (Class D Felony)
- Assault on Persons in Certain Occupations (Serious Misdemeanor)
- Possession of a Controlled Substance (Serious Misdemeanor)
- Person Ineligible to Carry Dangerous Weapon (Serious Misdemeanor)
- Interference with Official Acts (Simple Misdemeanor)
- Violation of No Contact Order (Contempt Charge)
Police are asking anyone with information related to this incident to contact the Dubuque Police Department at 563-589-4415. As with any criminal case, all charges are allegations, and the suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
