As a parent, I remember the younger years with my littles. My wife spent many days at the parks in Cascade. Our kids would stumble about as they figured out their feet, go down the slides and through the tunnels, and enjoy a nice swing. Parks really do make life with little kids a little bit easier and enjoyable. Plus, it gets them fresh air, exercise, and a chance to try out that newfound coordination (or lack thereof). I have many fond memories of my family's time at our local parks, and now you can help decide what that experience looks like for you and your kids in Dubuque.

According to a recent press release, the City of Dubuque Parks and Recreation Department is asking residents to share their ideas for new playground equipment coming to Gay Park, Jefferson Park, Madison Park, and near the Fuhrman Pavilion at Louis Murphy Park. Each of these parks will see new play structures and colorful rubber surfacing installed in spring 2026, and the City wants your input before the final designs are chosen.

Residents of all ages (that means your kids, too) are encouraged to share their opinions on play activity options, styles, and color schemes. The online surveys for each park are available now online and will remain open through Thursday, October 30th, 2025. If you’d rather fill out a paper survey, you can request one by calling the Parks and Recreation office at 563-589-4263.

So, What is Planned for the Parks?

Gay Park will get new rubber surfacing and equipment while keeping its half basketball court and ball field. Jefferson Park will receive fresh surfacing, fencing, and signage — plus an updated play area. Madison Park will also get new equipment and surfacing, and its play area may shift slightly for better accessibility. Finally, at Louis Murphy Park, a new play structure near the Fuhrman Pavilion will complement the park’s existing amenities.

These improvements are part of Dubuque’s ongoing effort to maintain safe, fun, and inclusive spaces for families. And with new parks on the horizon; like South Pointe Park planned for a fall opening of this year (2025) and Rustic Point Park coming in 2026, it’s an exciting time for kids in Dubuque.

So, if you’ve ever smiled while watching your kids (or grandkids) conquer a slide or climb to new heights, take a few minutes to share your thoughts. Your input today can help shape the next generation of playground memories across Dubuque.
