One of the main attractions is the “Create Your Own Kite” station. Kids (and adults) can design and decorate their own kites at the event, as all materials are provided. Just be sure to get there early since supplies are limited. After that, take your masterpiece to the skies! There will be live kite flying demonstrations, so you can learn from the pros or simply enjoy watching them in action.

And speaking of pros, prepare to be wowed by giant show kites soaring high above. Some are as big and colorful as small parade floats. Of course, this all depends on the wind and weather.

But Kite Tales isn’t just about flying kites. It’s also about connecting with nature, our local green spaces, and our community. Visitors will get the chance to meet Iowa DNR Conservation Officer Nate Johnson, who’ll be showing off a real water patrol boat and talking about waterway protection. City Horticulturist Kelly Goossen will share gardening wisdom, and Kaytlan Moeller, Outreach Coordinator for Dubuque County Conservation, will be on hand to talk about local conservation efforts.

Parking is free, and if the Usha Park lot fills up, overflow parking will be available at The Journey Assembly of God Church next door. There’s even a chance for attendees to help shape the future of Dubuque’s parks. Community input will be gathered for the Parks and Recreation Master Plan. Those who can't make it can still share their thoughts at YourStoryDubuque.com. So pack a snack, grab the kids, and go fly a kite: Literally!
