Fatal Dubuque Accident- Pedestrian Hit by Vehicle, Names Released
In the late hours of Tuesday, April 30th, tragedy struck on the eastbound lanes of Highway 20 in the 3100 block of Dubuque as a pedestrian, David Miller, 47 years old of Dubuque, was struck by a motor vehicle. Responding swiftly, Dubuque Police Officers and Dubuque Fire staff found Miller lying in the roadway with significant head trauma. Despite immediate lifesaving efforts, Miller succumbed to his injuries at 12:06 am.
The driver of the vehicle, Charles Calkins, a 53 year old from East Dubuque, remained on the scene and cooperated with authorities. Initial investigations suggest Miller entered the roadway on foot as Calkins’ vehicle was traveling eastbound. However, no charges are currently pending against Calkins as the investigation continues.
The incident highlights the importance of road safety and the devastating consequences that can result from accidents. Miller's untimely passing serves as a somber reminder to exercise caution while traveling, whether on foot, bike, or behind the wheel.
