Popular Convenience Store Beaver to Open First Wisconsin Location; Second to Follow?
I've seen many viral videos about Texas's favorite convenience store. They make me want to stop in for the food for sure, but they also offer loads of specialty items, toys, and other goodies. So much so that they have acquired quite a cult following when it comes to the popularity of a convenience store chain; few can match the phenomenon that is Buc-ee's. Heck, even folks in Iowa want one! Now, the chain is looking to bring the fun to Wisconsin for the first time.

Buc-ee’s isn’t your average gas station. Calling it that is probably the understatement of the century. These travel centers are massive, nearly 74,000 square feet, with aisles of Buc-ee-branded merch, giant jerky counters, in-house bakeries, and brisket that smokes for 12 to 14 hours. Fans flock to grab Beaver Nuggets (sweet, crunchy corn puffs), brisket sandwiches, kolaches, fudge, and about a hundred other road trip snacks. And then there are the restrooms. They are famously spotless and big enough to have their own ZIP code.
The first Wisconsin Buc-ee’s is planned for Oak Creek, right off I-94 and Elm Road. If approved, it’ll feature roughly 120 fuel pumps, EV charging stations, and enough parking to make it more of an event than a pit stop. The store is expected to open in early 2027 and will be the farthest north Buc-ee’s has ever ventured. The chain is looking to continue its growth across the nation, with locations coming to Georgia, Tennessee, Florida, and several other states.
Wisconsin may actually get two Buc-ee’s, with another location long proposed for DeForest, near Madison. That project has been slower to move forward, mainly due to debates over who will cover $15 million in interchange upgrades to handle the store’s traffic. If built, the DeForest Buc-ee’s would mirror Oak Creek’s size and setup.
Fans say Buc-ee’s is part convenience store, part theme park, part Texas pride parade. Non-fans point to the scale, traffic, and public funding concerns. In fact, Oak Creek even saw a lawsuit from residents over the project. Still, with hundreds of jobs promised and a guaranteed flood of curious travelers, Buc-ee’s is likely to make a big splash in the Badger State.
So come 2027, whether you’re there for the brisket tacos, the beaver bobbleheads, or just the “world’s cleanest restrooms,” you might find yourself making a not-so-quick “quick stop” in Oak Creek.
