Human Remains Identified After Fatal Jo Daviess County House Fire
A devastating and fatal structure fire on November 26th, 2024, claimed the life of a rural East Dubuque resident. The Jo Daviess County Sheriff’s Office received a call about the fire, located at 5815 North Dunn Road at approximately 12:51 PM.
When deputies and first responders arrived on the scene, they discovered notes handwritten by the suspected homeowner inside a vehicle parked outside the residence. 77-year-old Harry Holloman has now been identified as the victim and homeowner. Preliminary findings from attending officers led authorities to believe Holloman was still inside the home. The Illinois State Fire Marshal and Illinois State Police Crime Scene Unit were called to the scene to assist and begin an investigation.
Upon securing the immediate area, investigators conducted a preliminary walkthrough of the burned residence. During the search, human remains were located inside the structure. The remains were identified as those of Holloman, who lived alone at the address on Dunn Road.
A collaborative response to the fire included efforts from several local agencies; the East Dubuque Police Department, East Dubuque Fire/EMS, Menominee-Dunleith Fire Department, Jamestown Fire Department, Hazel Green Fire Department, Galena Fire Department, East Dubuque Public Works, Jo Daviess Coroner’s Office, the Illinois State Fire Marshal, and Illinois State Police.
The investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing. Authorities have however confirmed there is no threat to the community or other rural local residents. The Jo Daviess County Sheriff’s Office has requested anyone with additional information to call 815-777-2141.
