
Iowa Man Airlifted After Crash Near Galena: DUI & Suspended License Charges Issued
According to a incident report from the Jo Daviess County Sheriffs Office, a single-vehicle crash in rural Galena late Wednesday afternoon sent one man to the hospital with serious injuries and several pending charges. The Jo Daviess County Sheriff’s Office received a call regarding a reported traffic crash that occurred around 4:56 PM at the intersection of North Ferry Landing Road and West Cross Road.
Darrin M. Plowman, 36, of Brooklyn, IA, was driving a 2000 Buick Century northeast on North Ferry Landing Road when he lost control of the vehicle at the intersection of West Cross Road. Plowman’s vehicle left the roadway and entered the ditch before going down a steep embankment, and striking large rocks before coming to a stop.

Emergency services responded promptly, with Galena EMS transporting Plowman to the Midwest Medical Center in Galena. Due to the extent of his injuries, he was later airlifted by AirCare 3 to the University of Iowa Medical Center in Iowa City for further treatment.
Plowman faces multiple charges, including failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, driving under the influence of alcohol, and driving with a suspended license.
The incident remains under investigation by the Jo Daviess County Sheriff’s Office. Assisting at the scene of the accident was the Galena Police Department, Galena EMS, Galena Fire Department, and Guy’s Towing. Plowman is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
