A few days ago, a notice posted by the state of Illinois inferred that a mass layoff was imminent. At the time, John Deere denied the accuracy of that report, but now they've suddenly confirmed there will be a layoff at their Illinois plants, but the numbers of those being let go is different than before.

It was 5 days ago when I shared the news that the Illinois Work Net Center had posted a WARN notice revealing John Deere had a mass layoff planned. At the time, John Deere disputed the number reported by Illinois as including previous layoffs and that proved true.

Unfortunately, John Deere has now confirmed to Newsweek that they will be laying off numerous workers from two Illinois plants:

Harvester Works - East Moline, Illinois: 115 workers - to be laid off August 29
Seeding and Cylinder - Moline, Illinois: 52 workers - to be laid off September 26

"Decreased demand" and "lower order volumes" were the reasons given for this new layoff of John Deere workers in Illinois.

The Illinois Work Net Center website has been down for maintenance ever since the misreporting about the John Deere layoffs less than a week ago. At least the actual layoffs impacting John Deere workers in Illinois is less than was estimated before.
