Rocco and the Cyclones Fall in AP Poll Despite Amazing Win
The dream season for the Iowa State Cyclone football team lives on, thanks to a dramatic comeback win Saturday in Ames against UCF.
The Iowa State Cyclones improved to 7-0 for the first time in school history according to the Des Moines Register, and 4-0 in the Big 12. But it wasn't easy. It took an amazing last-minute touchdown drive orchestrated by quarterback Rocco Becht. A late pass interference penalty against UCF gave Iowa State a first and goal from the 4-yard line. Two plays later, Rocco finished off the Knights.
A Jontez Williams interception officially sealed the game for Iowa State. The Register reports it was his fourth straight game with an interception. Becht had a touchdown and 2 interceptions through the air for ISU, but he was a force on the ground rushing for 97 yards and two scores.
So how far up did the Cyclones go in this week's college football polls? The Register reports that in the USA TODAY Poll, Iowa State moved up two spots from #12 to #10. In this week's AP Poll, the Cyclones actually FELL one spot from #9 down to #10. What? How doesn't an undefeated team fall in the polls? It could be worse. Michigan, the defending national champions, fell out of this week's poll after losing to Illinois.
Iowa State will enjoy a bye this week and then host Texas Tech in Ames on November 2nd.
