There's a good chance you've seen Cory Hardrict in a movie or TV show over the last couple decades and not even realized it. Since the mid-1990s, Hardrict has found himself a recurring presence on shows such as ER, Law & Order, CSI, and others, not to mention movies like Gran Torino, American Sniper, and the Tupac Shakur biopic All Eyez on Me.

After years of work, or as he calls it "taking the stairs," Cory Hardrict has found himself in a leading role in Tyler Perry's upcoming new drama, Divorce in the Black. The movie, which hits Amazon Prime Video on July 11th, revolves around the dissolution of a marriage and two people's very different approaches to the sudden end of their relationship. Hardrict acts alongside Meagan Good in the film.

With Divorce in the Black set to be released this week, I had the privilege of chatting with Cory Hardrict about his role in the film and working with director Tyler Perry, whom he calls a "gentle giant." Perry has been making movies for nearly 20 years, and various actors have expressed nothing but gratitude and joy when asked about working with him. Hardrict is no exception:

[Working with Tyler Perry] was amazing, let me just say [....] Tyler Perry is a gentle giant, you know, a man who has all this power but he treats you on an even playing field. He makes sure your voice is heard. He's there for you, he's a collaborator, he's everything you could dream of when working with someone [....] he has a heart of good. - Cory Hardrict, per our interview

In addition to Divorce in the Black, Hardrict spoke about what it was like to work with Clint Eastwood on not one, but two movies. He described both Perry and Eastwood as similar directors insofar that they both enjoy filming rehearsals and often only use one take in order to keep productions moving.

Hardrict also spoke about starring in two Tupac-centric projects in the last decade, including the biopic All Eyez on Me and City of Lies, which revolves around the LAPD's investigation into the murders of Tupac and Biggie Smalls.

Hardrict looks to make waves with Divorce in the Black, which drops on Amazon Prime Video on July 11th. Read more about Cory Hardrict and see his vast number of credits on his Wikipedia page, and take a listen to my interview with the actor below!
