According to our coverage partners at KWWL, a recent ruling has moved the needle on a recent Dubuque murder. Tyler James Dazey, a Dubuque resident, that faces charges of first-degree murder and animal abuse after allegedly killing his mother, Jennifer Ann Dazey, and their family dog. The tragic incident occurred in January, leaving Jennifer Dazey with lacerations to her face, head, and neck.
In a startling revelation during police interrogation, Tyler Dazey claimed his mother had been practicing witchcraft against him for years, shedding light on potential underlying mental health issues. In fact, Dazey was recently found not competent to stand trial. This determination indicates that he currently lacks the ability to understand the legal proceedings against him or to assist in his own defense in a rational manner.
Consequently, Dazey will undergo treatment, supervised by state psychiatrists, in an attempt to restore his competency. The treatment may involve therapy, medication, and education about the legal process.

During this period, Dazey will remain at a psychiatric facility, where visits from family members and attorneys will likely be permitted. The goal is to provide him with the necessary support and intervention to enable his return to the court system.
Upon restoration of competency, Dazey will resume his legal proceedings. He will have the opportunity to enter a plea, stand trial, or pursue other legal options in connection with the charges against him.
