If it was summer, a barbeque is about to be ruined.

Made Right Here in Illinois

That's because Johnsonville, a premier sausage maker in Momence, has just recalled a large amount of its product.

The brats in question were produced on February 5 of this year, and the USDA's Food and Safety Inspection Service first announced the recall on March 30, 2025.

Brats Shipped Across 10 States

Those delicious yet plastic-y Cheddar Brats have been shipped to ten different states in the US, including Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, and our neighbors to the north, Wisconsin.

Two different people have reported finding pieces of hard plastic inside the brats.

That's like finding a surprise inside when no one specifically asked for a "prize inside."

Jokes aside, there have been no reports of injury, but eating plastic is no good because, you know, it's plastic, and you could choke.

What to Look for in Your Fridge or Freezer

If you have these brats at home, look for the code B9FOD and establishment number EST. 1647 on 19-ounce packs containing five sausages.

What to Do If You Have Them

If you do, by chance, have brats that match those codes and/or establishment numbers, DON'T EAT THEM.

Instead, return them to the store where you purchased them or toss them in the trash.

Grilling season might not be here just yet, but this recall is a good reminder: always double-check what's going on the bun.
