This Illinois City Is the State’s Top Spot for Remote Work—And It’s Not Chicago
Just when I thought the hottest spots for work from home would be the ones that are, well, hot.
It's quite unexpected, isn't it? A city in Illinois (not in Chicago, by the way) is making it to a list like this. It's a twist we didn't see coming.
That's because of the weather. Plain and simple.
If there were places in America where work-from-home situations are top-notch, they would be in warm-weather climates.
A New Report on Cities for Remote Workers
I was wrong, way wrong, as 24/7 Wall Street points out in its report on 39 different cities where "Remote Workers Are Flocking To" for a stellar work-from-home life.
Florida Ranks, But Illinois Beats Expectations
The 39th best in America is Deltona-Daytona Beach-Ormond Beach in Florida. If you think that's fine, it gets better, and a city in Illinois is ranked higher.
The Quad Cities: A Standout in Remote Work Stats
Considering the increased remote workforce, total workforce, median earnings for remote and all workers, and regional price parity, Davenport-Rock Island-Moline is 21st overall.
Cost of Living and Earnings Make the Difference
Yes, I know one-third is in Iowa, but Rock Island and Moline count, and they're the only cities on the entire list located in Illinois where the remote workforce and total workforce increased from 2021 to 2023.
Median earnings for those who work from home in Davenport-Rock Island-Moline are higher on average than those who work in person.
A More Affordable Living Option for Remote Workers
Another thing that makes Danvenport-Rock Island-Moline stand out is that the cities are 11.1% less expensive than the U.S. average, another appealing reason to live there.
