The people of Wyoming have spoken, and they've sent a message loud and clear to the Cheney family and Republican establishment that Donald J. Trump is still their guy.

Once considered political royalty in the Cowboy State, the primary election on Tuesday put an end to representative Liz Cheney's congressional career. She was beaten badly by attorney Harriet Hageman. Trump thumped Cheney, with the conservative Hageman winning 66% to 29%.

It's quite the turn of events considering former Vice President Dick Cheney represented Wyoming in Congress from 1979 to 1989 before becoming Secretary of Defense under GHW Bush 1. Cheney was eventually George Dubya's Vice President.

Liz Cheney took a stick to the Trump hornet's nest by going after him first with impeachment, then with the January 6 uprising. Now, Cheney's been stung by the Wyoming voters and Trump himself.

So what does this mean to Iowa voters? After all, Wyoming is a world away, with Nebraska acting as a big buffer.

Immediately upon losing Tuesday, Cheney and the mainstream media sprung into action to advance a new narrative. Liz Cheney has positioned herself as the anti-Trump crusader and defender of Truth, Justice, and Democracy. Moreover, she is instantly a potential candidate for president in 2024.

I will be doing whatever it takes to keep Donald Trump out of the Oval Office. - Rep. Liz Cheney.

Suppose Cheney explores a run or becomes a candidate. In that case, it likely means future campaigning in Iowa ahead of the 2024 Iowa Caucuses.

However, will Iowa Republicans be willing to play along?  There may be some party soul searching with Cheney establishing herself as Trump's primary nemesis.

Former President Donald Trump is the overwhelming frontrunner for the Republican Party's nomination should he wage a 2024 comeback bid. However, that won't likely stop someone like Cheney, who is more than willing to play the sacrificial pawn and frontline warrior for a larger political agenda. Should she accept the role, expect Cheney to venture into Iowa to play hardball politics against Trump.

Liz Cheney may have taken it hard on the chin with Tuesday's primary defeat. Still, politics at the level Cheney, her father, and their cohorts play won't get sidetracked by an embarrassing loss of a congressional seat in a low-population western state.

On the contrary, it may empower Liz Cheney and the DC establishment she's embedded with to fully fund and continue her crusade in defending democracy and silencing Trump. For Dick Cheney, this sort of politics is standard practice. He's been quite successful at it since the early 1970s.

Keep an eye out for the next act in this political power play. It'll be interesting and perhaps entertaining to see if Iowa Republicans and the national mainstream media give Liz Cheney the platform and attention she will need in her political war with Fmr. U.S. President Donald Trump.
