Mathias Ham Historic Site is Hosting a 4th of July Ice Cream Social

Nothing screams summer quite like ice cream.

The Mathias Ham Historic Site is celebrating Independence Day by holding its fourth annual July Ice Cream Social from 11 am to 4 pm at its location on Lincoln Avenue in Dubuque.

There's one notable new addition for this event as well: its name. As of 2022 and going forward, the event will be known as the "Audrey Hammer 4th of July Ice Cream Social."

Audrey Hammer was a long-tenured, highly regarded tour guide at the Ham Site. A former teacher with a passion for education, she volunteered at the ice cream social annually. The event proudly honors her.

Attendees will be treated to live music by The Americana Band as well as Victorian games for children, including sack races, horseshoes, jacks, and more! Crafts will take place throughout the day.

In addition to the delicious ice cream, picnic foods and cakes will be available for purchase as well!

"Free tours of the historic Ham House, the Humke one-room school, the replica lead mine, and the Arriandeau log cabin will run from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m., with live demonstrations and thunderous cannon fire adding to the experience of Independence Day," according to a press release for the event.

Free-will donations will be accepted. Proceeds will benefit the Mathias Ham Historic Site. The social is sponsored by Tracy & Fred Fischer, as well as this year's in-kind sponsor, Prairie Farms, who is providing the ice cream.

The Mathias Ham Historic Site, operated by the Dubuque County Historical Society, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is located at 2241 Lincoln Avenue in Dubuque.
