During the bond hearing, held via video from the Dubuque County Jail, Tyler Dazey reportedly laughed and commented that it was "always a pleasure" after Iowa District Associate Judge Mark Hostager set his bond at $2 million cash-only.

Reports show that police discovered a tactical tomahawk in the residence and sent it along to the state crime lab for further testing, along with other evidence. Dazey did claim ownership of the tomahawk and additionally accused his mother of practicing witchcraft against him for years. However, when he was questioned about his mother's sustained injuries, Dazey invoked his right to remain silent.
