The Jo Daviess County Sheriff's Office was tasked with investigating the incident. They were assisted by various area agencies, including the Elizabeth Ambulance Service, Illinois State Police, Scales Mound Fire Department, and the Jo Daviess County Coroner.

After all necessary family notifications were made, the crash victim has been identified as 44-year-old Tanya Marie Wills of Scales Mound. The tragic death of Tanya Marie Wills and the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident has left a significant impact on the small community of only 435. The specific details of the crash, including the factors that led to the vehicle’s loss of control, are part of the ongoing investigation.

A go fund me has been started for family expenses incurred in the crash. The Go Fund me states:

Tanya did not have life insurance leaving her family with the responsibility of handling funeral costs. We have to have at least half of the funeral service costs upfront. Jeremy fractured his C2 vertebrae and has severe lacerations on his left arm. Treatment of his injuries will require frequent trips to Iowa City with the possibility of surgery in the future. All donations will be used for funeral expenses, traveling expenses to get Jeremy to and from appointments as well as help offset lost wages. Any help is extremely appreciated.
