Poopsie’s Speeds Into Fall, Winter With Fun Events for Kids
Poopsie's in beautiful downtown Galena, IL has been a beacon of joy for the river-town and the entire Tri-States as a whole for years. It's a brightly colored shop filled with smiling faces. It'd be hard to be anything else, given they have an ostensibly endless assortment of books, toys, trinkets, playsets, gadgets, games, pop culture items, and so much more.
Poopsie's would already be noteworthy alone for its stock, but what makes it such a force in itself is all that it does for the children and community as a whole. On the phone with me today was Alana Turner of Poopsie's, who is steadfast in her commitment to making sure Poopsie's is more than just a fun shop.
Turner talked about Poopsie's weekly Facebook Live events, where several products are showcased on Thursday evenings, as well as their beloved "Laughs and Law Enforcement" events. They are free and take place on the first Tuesday of every month from 4:30-5:30pm:
We've partnered with the Jo Daviess County Police Department and the Galena Police Department. Every Tuesday at 4:30pm, they have officers [here], squad cars [....] and they're whole point is just to build relationships with kids [....] Kids come in and get to draw free money to shop with as well [....] and then they can actually pick their favorite officer and have a personal shopper.
Turner stressed the point of "Laughs and Law Enforcement" is to allow children of a young age to build relationships with local police officers, something so foundational for a community's success.
While the leaves might only be starting to change colors, and the mornings and afternoons are decisively cooler than they were a month ago, Poopsie's is already looking ahead to Christmastime. Turner is hard at work on a concept that merges the spirit of the holiday season with her shop's commitment to law enforcement:
In December, kids not only get to have their best personal shoppers [in local] police officers, they're also going to fill wish-boxes for the holidays. Then, Santa, parents, and everybody can just stop in and shop right out of those boxes, which is a lot of fun.
That event, called "Shop With a Cop Christmas Night," is set to commence on December 6th from 4:30-6:30pm! Keep your eye on Poopsie's Facebook page and website for more details!
Turner ended our conversation by talking about an exciting new addition to Poopsie's: a laser engraving machine, which can customize/personalize a barrage of items like onesies and mugs. It would make the optimal birthday, anniversary, holiday, or going-away gift for a loved-one or friend!
Poopsie's is located at 402 South Main Street in Galena. Give them a "like" on Facebook!
