Operated by the City of Dubuque, the 20-acre campground sits along the Mississippi River and offers both electric and primitive campsites, with scenic views and easy access to outdoor recreation. According to the press release, this year’s opening has been slightly delayed as crews complete the relocation of the campground’s water fill and dump station, alongside coordination with construction near the adjacent amphitheater.

Last year, high river levels forced the park to close from late May through early September, submerging much of the western side of the campground and parts of Riverview Park Road. The extended closure required weeks of cleanup, debris removal, and significant electrical repairs. Despite the challenges, the City’s Leisure Services Department worked diligently to restore the park and reopen it to the public.

This season, campers can once again enjoy accessible restrooms and showers, firepit grills, picnic tables, playground equipment, and nearly a mile of paved multi-use trails. The park also offers easy access to fishing spots and pavilion shelters, making it a popular destination for weekend getaways and family outings, especially with its proximity to Q Casino's Backwater's Stage and the other amenities of Chaplain Schmitt Island.

Campsite rates remain affordable at $25 per night for electric sites and $18 for primitive ones. There’s a two-night minimum stay required for holiday weekends, including Memorial Day, the Fourth of July, and Labor Day. Reservations can be made up to 240 days in advance online or by calling 563-599-2852. Same-day bookings are accepted. The campground season runs through the fourth Sunday in October, weather and river levels permitting.
