Ramones To Have Street Named After Them in Queens, New York
Having a street named after you isn't exactly punk rock, but it certainly is an honor. Legendary punk rockers Ramones will receive that honor later this month in Queens, New York.
The four original members of the Ramones: Johnny, Dee Dee, Tommy and Joey all attended Forest Hills High School in Queens back in the '60s. Now, a street in front of the school will be named in their honor.
The street's location is at the intersection of 67th Avenue and 110th Street at the main entrance to the school. On Oct. 23, it will officially be renamed Ramones Way.
Forest Hills can truly be called "Rock 'n' Roll High School." In addition to the Ramones, other alumni of the school include Paul Simon, Art Garfunkel and Leslie West (Mountain). Bob Keeshan (Captain Kangaroo) and talk show host Jerry Springer also went to the school.
There's already a street named after Joey Ramone in Manhattan. Joey Ramone Place is on East 2nd Street and the Bowery. It's reportedly the most stolen street sign in New York City. Now, that's punk rock!
