After a dreadful week for my NFL bets (thanks, Bears, Colts, and Steelers), I feel like I need all the luck I can get when it comes to gambling. While I'm not one for slots, I can usually go for a few hands of blackjack at Q Casino, but generally like to keep my gambling on the mobile sports betting apps.

I'm not a big superstition guy in general, but a lot of people are, which probably explains why Casino.com decided to conduct a study that looked into each state's luckiest color, number, month, day, and item of clothing.

This is one of the more unique surveys I've stumbled upon because it's difficult, if not impossible, to quantify luck or come to a consensus on something people determined as lucky. Here's how Casinos.com explains their survey, per a press release:

A new survey from Casinos.com has revealed how you can maximize your luck by adopting the nation’s luckiest numbers, days, colors and even items of clothing. According to the survey, 30% of Americans believe that a number can bring you good luck with 26% of people claiming that 7 was there lucky number. The survey also revealed that 12pm on a Friday in March is the Luckiest Time of the Year for Americans - even luckier if you’re wearing a blue sweatshirt!

Casinos.com broke this research down into five categories: color, number, month, day, and item of clothing. In doing so, they also found a consensus on those categories when it comes to what Iowans find lucky.

According to Casinos.com, here some things Iowans determine as lucky:

  • Purple is their luckiest color
  • is their luckiest number
  • August is their luckiest month of the year
  • Saturday is their luckiest day of the week
  • Jeans are their luckiest item of clothing

Iowa is part of the 13% that find purple to be a lucky color:

When it comes to which color Americans find to be luckiest, Blue was the winner with 24% of the vote, followed by Green (15%) and Purple (13%). The two classic colors of the casino followed in fourth and fifth place, with Red claiming 10% of the vote and Black 7%. - Casinos.com

However, Iowa goes against the grain when it comes to feeling like Saturday is the day of good fortune:

When asked which they of the week they felt was the luckiest, 22% of Americans said that Friday brought the most luck, with Saturday in second place with 13% - that weekend feeling!

Wednesday (11%), Thursday (8%), Sunday (7%) and Tuesday (6%) all followed after, with Monday picking up the rear with just 4% of Americans stating it was the luckiest day of the week. - Casinos.com

With so many states pegging 7 as their "lucky number," Casinos.com added a little blurb about why 7 is viewed as a lucky number.

There’s also a strong connection between the number seven and lots of religions, beliefs, and folklore around the world, which could be why people tend to feel drawn to seven as their lucky digit!

For example, in Judaism, seven comes up a lot, with examples like the seven days of Passover and seven prayers recited under the chuppah at a Jewish wedding. In Christianity, there are seven sins and seven heavenly virtues. In Islam, there are seven heavens, and seven turns around the Kaaba in Mecca while on pilgrimage. Hindu beliefs include seven worlds in the universe, seven sages, and seven chakras, while Japanese mythology has seven lucky gods, and in Ireland, people believe that the seventh son of a seventh son will have special powers. - Casinos.com
