Three Dubuque Teenagers Killed in Early Morning Crash on Friday (July 1)
The Iowa State Patrol says three Dubuque teenagers were killed in a single-vehicle accident just before 1:30 am Friday.
The driver of the vehicle, 18-year-old William Wodrich, and his 2 passengers 17-year-old Kennedy Elskamp and 17-year-old Chloe Lucas, all of Dubuque, were pronounced dead at the scene.
According to the Iowa State Patrol, Wodrich was southbound on the NW Arterial at a high rate of speed when he lost control of his vehicle near the intersection of West 32nd Street. The vehicle went into a ditch, vaulted, and rolled.
The accident remains under investigation. All 3 were students at Dubuque Senior High School. The school released the following today:
Dear Dubuque Senior Families,
It is with great sadness that I share a painful loss for the Dubuque Senior High School family. We learned today that students Kennedy Elskamp, Chloe Lucas and William Wodrich died as a result of injuries sustained in a car accident early this morning.
We extend our deepest sympathy to the family and friends of Kennedy, Chloe and William, and we join together in rallying around them.
A tragedy like this impacts everyone differently, and students or staff may seek additional opportunities to process this loss further. Our Dubuque Senior counseling team will be available at school today from 2-4 p.m. and Tuesday from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. for those who would like additional support or would just like to talk.
We also encourage students to seek out extra support at home if needed. As a school community, remember to be there for each other during this difficult time.
Sincerely,
Brian Howes
Principal Dubuque Senior High School
