Apparently sitting on my backside playing music and entertaining listeners is a fun way to earn a living, but it doesn't do much for my physical health and well-being.  In fact, it probably hurts it.

So several years ago, at the urging of my doctor, I started walking around my neighborhood.  At first, it was just a leisurely little 10 to 20  minute stroll around my neighborhood.  Eventually, I started walking longer and farther.  Today I walk between 4 and 5 miles every morning before work.  And yes I even walk on my days off.

One of the things I've noticed on my walks is how beautiful Dubuque is,  Great architecture, mature trees, and overall great-looking neighborhoods.  Unfortunately, I've also noticed the amount of litter and trash that lines our streets.  Primarily food wrappers, beer cans, plastic pop bottles, and thanks to COVID-19, face masks.

Even my grandkids noticed the litter on a recent walk with their grandpa.  So I decided to do a little something about it.  Every day on my walk I make it a point to pick up at least one piece of trash each morning.  On Thursdays, which is trash day in the neighborhood I walk, I'll pick up several pieces and just drop them in one of the trash cans put out for collection.  Don't worry, if it's a can, bottle, or piece of cardboard I'll place it in a recycling bin.  Sometimes the bins have already been emptied do if you live near the University of Dubuque and occasionally find something in your bin after the city has collected it....it's probably from me.  Hope that's OK.

Let me get to the point of this article.  We can all do our part to help keep our All America City clean.  The best way is not to litter in the first place, but that doesn't seem to be working for some people.  The other way we can help is to partner with other groups or organizations to help with the cleanup.
