Following its screening at the 2022 Julien Dubuque International Film Festival this past spring, one documentary is coming back to Dubuque for a free, one-night-only showing this Sunday, August 21st.

Sara Terry's A Decent Home will be shown at the United Automobile Workers Local 94 on Central Avenue in Dubuque at 2pm this Sunday. The screening is hosted by Table Mound Residents Association, Dubuque Federation of Labor AFL-CIO, and UAW Local 94.

The film follows residents of mobile home parks in Colorado and Iowa whose parks get bought by large corporations and private equity firms with the intent of raising land prices. In most states, mobile home residents own the homes themselves but pay rent for the land on which those homes sit.

While highlighting specific stories, A Decent Home's broader focus is on the increasing disappearance of affordable housing in America, per the event's Facebook page.

When even the most affordable housing in our American Dream is being devoured by the wealthiest of the wealthy, whose dream are we serving? This rousing documentary addresses urgent issues of class and economic (im)mobility through the lives of mobile home park residents who are fighting for their basic right to fair housing.

A Decent Home is the third feature from documentarian Sara Terry, whose films explore "how we define our humanity and role of community in helping us understand what our humanity looks like," per her bio on the website for her latest film. Terry's first documentary, Fambul Tok (2011), looked at a grassroots forgiveness program in Sierra Leonne, which saw its premiere at Sundance.

Her sophomore feature, FOLK (2013), followed three singer-songwriters who functioned in the American folk music subculture. FOLK went on to screen at the Nashville Film Festival, Bonnaroo Music Festival, and various other fests.

More information about A Decent Home can be found on the film's official website. More information on its screening at the UAW Local 94 can be found on the event's Facebook page. A discussion will follow the screening on Sunday. Check out the trailer for A Decent Home here.
