This new bulletin from the CDC was issued just days ago and affects Illinois and also 14 other states. It involves 11,097 pounds of Busseto Foods brand ready-to-eat meat products that were available in Illinois with a “best by” date on April 27, 2024. This is what the package looks like as shared by the CDC.

Salmonella was found in unopened samples of this product which is what led to the urgent recall.

The CDC alert specifically says that this meat was sold in some Illinois Sam's Club locations.

Salmonella may not become a serious illness for some, but for the elderly, very young and/or those with weakened immune systems, it can be life-threatening.

This shows the map of active cases which now does include Illinois.

Ohio appears hardest hit so far, but as the CDC says there may be unreported cases for those who are healthy that have salmonella but aren't showing serious symptoms yet.

As this is a developing story, it will be updated as new information is released. As of now, you can check out the full CDC alert for more details and updates as this salmonella outbreak is followed.
