One of the most popular sodas, or maybe more accurately, one of the most popular brands in the world, is issuing a voluntary recall following potential foreign matter contamination in the liquid.

As of this week, there is an active recall from Coca-Cola on a specific product, per the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA). It is presently a "Class II" recall, which means that consuming the contaminated beverage could prompt "minor health problems," per the FDA report.

The product being recalled is 12-count packs of Coca-Cola Original Taste. This is the common, popular brand of Coca-Cola, highlighted by the trademark red can and the "ORIGINAL TASTE" moniker on the respective products.

The recalled products have a UPC code of "0 49000-00634 6" on each can and a UPC code of "0 49000-2890 4" printed on the packaging. The 12 fluid-ounce cans also have an expiration date of September 29th, 2025, and were sold across Illinois and Wisconsin, per EatingWell.com.

Approximately 864 cases of Coca-Cola Original Taste are impacted by this ongoing voluntary recall.

The affected drinks might contain pieces of plastic, as noted by the aforementioned FDA report, which could cause sickness if consumed. If you find the affected products in your fridge or pantry, dispose of them or return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.

Unrelated to the Coca-Cola recall, but last week, Nestlé USA issued a recall of Lean Cuisine and Stouffer's frozen meals due to the potential for a wood-like material/substance present in the meals. Per Nestlé USA's website, the recall is isolated to a limited quantity of the following items:

  • Lean Cuisine Butternut Squash Ravioli
  • Lean Cuisine Spinach Artichoke Ravioli
  • Lean Cuisine Lemon Garlic Shrimp Stir Fry
  • Stouffer's Party Size Chicken Lasagna
