Traffic Flow: With the completion of the entrance improvement project, traffic flow has returned to normal, and there are no more delays at the scale. According to a DMASWA Facebook post, the planned Customer Convenience Center project, a facility designed for smaller commercial and residential customers, will have both inbound and outbound scales. Currently most large volume commercial haulers only need to scale on the inbound, and they will be the primary users of this entrance now.

Service Resumption: The Regional Collection Center has resumed accepting household hazardous materials and electronics for recycling. You can now schedule an appointment through the Agency’s website.  The services to accept household hazardous materials and electronics as part of the recycling program were suspended for the duration of the project

Speaking of which, did you know that at their latest mobile collection event32,582 pounds of material was collected and diverted from ending up in the landfill. That includes 9,948 pounds of household hazardous materials, 11,868 pounds of electronics, and 10,766 pounds of latex paint, collected from 310 Dubuque County residents.

The recent construction was part of ongoing efforts to improve the facility. The last significant updates that were undertaken were due to new requirements from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR), leading to the upgrade of the composting facility in January of this year. Changes made then, allowed our current facility to continue accepting commingled materials and increase their capacity for food scraps.

So our waste area is officially open and uninhibited, now what?

Schedule an appointment for household hazardous materials and electronics recycling at DMASWA’s website. Contact your local collection provider about curbside pickup programs for electronics. For more information, call DMASWA at 563-557-8220, or visit www.dmaswa.org. Now that everything is back to normal, it’s easier than ever to handle your waste disposal needs.
