We all have our favorite football players that we cheer for. Admittedly most of them are high-profile players like quarterbacks, running backs, and wide receivers. But in Ames, they are cheering for the punter.

Tyler Perkins is the punter for the Iowa State Cyclones. The Des Moines Register reports that Perkins believes that going to school and playing a collegiate sport is a blessing. And he is using his profile as a college athlete to help those in need. Last season, Perkins was named the Ray Guy National Punter of the Week following a game against Ohio. Local clothing company RAYGUN reached out and wanted to know if he was interested in a collaboration. The Register reports that Perkins said yes, and he knew exactly what he wanted to do with the funds.

Perkins decided that all the money raised by the sales of his shirt should go to the Ames Community School District and its Lunch Hero program. The fund adds money to student's lunch accounts that are below zero. Perkins told the Register, "Kids shouldn't have to go to school worrying about if they are going to eat lunch or not."

You can purchase one of Perkin's shirts at the RAYGUN website. They retail for $24.95 with all the funds going to the Ames Lunch Hero program. That is certainly worth cheering about.
